Most probably, we all have watched “The Fairly OddParents” growing up. It was cool -and
slightly rewarding- to see a child like us having everything he wished for. He had
what some of us couldn’t have, and I am not referring to the fancy supper-fast
delivered stuff, I am actually talking about his listening and present parents.
Yes, they
were unreal, pretty weird, and sometimes dump, but they were there!
Every day…
Through
thick and thin…
During big
and small moments…
Despite the
writers using the careless parents and the evil babysitter story lines as a
justification for Timmy deserving his Kosmo and Wanda, personally, I thought back then: "everyone
deserves someone to be there when they are lonely, even if these dull periods only last for minutes”.
But this is
somehow an Ethical dilemma, not my point for now.
Since the beginning
of the 20th century, humans have been going through a lot.
Wars, radioactive
crisis, occupations, massacres, Governments corruption, virulent bacteria (pre-penicillin
era), USA vs Russia, and economic issues.
It was a
matter of welfare to think of your mental health or psychological needs, therefore,
it was also welfare to prioritize your child’s prosperity. No body understood the value
of proper communication with kids, to be there for their boy/ girl because they had to provide for them and to ensure a roof over their heads in a volatile
world. It’s reasonable.
However,
this produced a number of the world worst criminals, “Cherchez les…” abusive
childhood and head trauma when it comes to serial killers!
In 2021, I
always doubt the parent’s alibi for not supporting their children. I mean… of
course it is still a volatile world in a different "speedy" way, but, in such fast-paced communities, wherever you are, a kid needs love and attention here
and now, because time flies, and if they do not receive what they naturally
deserve, it will lose every meaning to them.
They will
grow up and mature faster than the previous generations did, hating the world
and feeling a void in their hearts, knowing that it is eternal, nothing can
cure it except psychotherapy, which is still neglected by Governments and financially
unavailable for many people.
There is a
very narrow window which we should catch, so that we protect our children from
their worst future enemy: Mental illness.
Now that I
am a grown-up, I wonder why Timmy Turner did not wish for a mental-illness-free
life before he lost his fairy parents.
